Prepared for the FAM-18 northern route inaugural departing Jun 24, 1939, this Lynn MA registered cover, Jun 23 arrived the same day. Markings at the left apparently preempted space for the cachet. At London crossed blue lines, for registered handling, were applied. Registration was clearly for the purpose of getting a dated backstamp - none was applied. Efforts by US collectors - for dated markings on air mail covers to UK - has a long, interesting history going well into the post-WWII time period. Copies of covers with markings that help tell this story requested - failures and successes.
